If England had totally dominated this game, hit the woodwork a few times, forced some great saves from the keeper and at least tried to play with a bit of style, the result may have been easier to bear. Unfortunately we were thoughtless, lifeless and bereft of suitable tactics to break a disciplined and well organised side. We have players who earn tens of thousands of pounds each week yet they can’t pass the ball, trap it or tackle. I’m not sure any manager whether foreign or English could knock these prima donnas into shape.

We need to cut our deficit. There are ways and means and it seems that the Canadian model which is being touted about, may not be the panacea the Coalition want it to be. Things are going to be tricky but the Tories seem to be using the deficit as a smokescreen to cut back on what the Government needs to do. So if effect, it’s the same old cuts you normally get when the Tories are in power, just dressed up differently.

We play Bolton tomorrow and the players need to hold their nerve. After playing poorly last week against Utd, they need to prove me wrong and show me they’ve got the winkle to do it in the big games. Despit a valiant effort by the rugby lads on Saturday and Hamilton giving it a shot, we come up short again and all the expectations of English sport at the highest level are dashed. Still we should have known it wouldn’t be any other way.
