In 1987 The Arsenal beat us 2-1 in the replayed semi-final of the League Cup. That result started all the 1 nil down 2-1 up nonsense. I felt terrible at the time having been at the game and I sulked for a week afterwards. After today’s result, I nearly felt as bad as I did in 1987.  We matched Citeh and showed everyone that we can compete at the highest level. I’m still not sure how we went 2-0 down in the first place and we showed great character to come back to two all and let’s face it we should’ve  (and deserved) to win the game. I had a sinking feeling we would lose after we missed the chance as those kinds of things always happen to Tottenham. It was all made especially worse by that shit bag Ballotelli scoring as he shouldn’t have still been on the pitch after deliberately kicking Parker in the face.

In the first half we matched them although we were a bit weak going forward. VdV played too deep and BAE had one of his “it’s only a job type ” type performances but everyone else looked solid enough. Second half they came at us a bit but some how went two nil up. Undeterred we got a quick goal back, equalised with a typical Tottenham goal from Bale and after that there was only one team who looked likely to win it. Howard Webb just didn’t help us though missing a form arm smash on Kaboul from Lescott and the aforementioned Ballotelli incident. What do expect from a ref who didn’t send off the perpetrator of a kung-fu kick in the World Cup Final ? We can’t blame the ref for Defoe’s miss so as ‘Arry said afterwards they’re a good side and so are we.

It’s taken me a long time to become a believer again in Tottenham. We’ve had so many false dawns, inconsistent seasons and had to put up with so many mediocre players that you end up revelling in the misery of being a Spurs fans. ‘Arry has struck lucky with this group of players and I genuinely believe we’re a good side now. So we dropped two points against Wolves (who’ve been a bit of a bogey team for us the last few seasons) and too many of our players didn’t perform but I still believe. And if we win tomorrow I’ll become a fully fledged convert.

We go joint 2nd in the table as we overcome a rather lacklustre Everton side and keep our eighth clean sheet of the campaign. It seemed quite even in the first half until Azza made the most of a defensive mistake and put us in front ten minutes from the break and that seemed to knock the stuffing out of Everton. Second half we increased our lead with a BAE wonder goal and apart from a penalty shout right at the end, Everton just didn’t trouble us. Pav, Adebayor and Bale were all careless in front of goal and though by all means not a classic performance, we just seem to have that ability to win games with our quality.

With Sherlock now back on our screens, this is a timely reminder of Shah hob nobbing with the stars.

We have come a long way this season and whilst it was a struggle against West Brom (and a compliment to us they came to defend), Tuesday’s and yesterday’s win in the Cup, cap a good week for the club. Against West Brom we should’ve made more of our early dominance and in terms of chances created we were all over them. Not vintage stuff but as Tiger always said a win is a win baby. Even with the second string out we were never going to lose against Cheltenham. At least players like Di Santos got a run out and Dawson was back but in the end I think we all know our best side and most of the players playing yesterday wouldn’t be in it.
