In the evening we had a lovely Italian and a wander along the Levante beach front and sat having a drink watching the world go by. A good way to finish the holiday.

The weather was a bit iffy again so we walked down to Poniente Beach and walked in the sea. The beach (even though the weather was not so good) was packed. We listened to some people singing on the beach and that was really enjoyable. They seemed to be singing popular songs because everyone watching seemed to know the words.

The weather brightened in the afternoon and we went swimming in the pool to cool down. We tried the Indian Gate restaurant in the evening. Apparently it´s the only restaurant in Benidorm run by an indian born in India but the food was ordinary at best and they got the order wrong and gave Shah a chicken biriyani which is not too clever as she´s vegetarian. The highlight of the evening was a trip to the Orange Bar full of drunk dutch people (including the owners !)

We managed to grab a few hours down by the pool today before the rain came again in the afternoon. We dossed around in the afternoon, just reading and chilling out.

In the evening we popped back into the Old Town and had a drink in the The Heartbreak Bar which was spoiled by some pissed up knobs. As it was our anniversary we had hoped to find somewhere special for our evening meal. Alas we settled on Paneils which looked good from the outside and the inside but the food was very disappointing, and it left us both a little flat. The only plus point was that we found a good flamenco bar which we´ll go back to.

Another poor weather day here in Benidorm so we took to the local bus and had a wander around the Old Town and had some lunch and too much sangria.

This all led to a afternoon siesta and with no improvement in the weather, we set off early back to the Old Town and had a good meal in the Two Palms Restaurant. Suffice to say we seemed to have found ourselves in Benidorm´s gay district which Shah found amusing. I think I over did the red wine and after some late night ice cream, Shah took me home.

We managed to get some pool time today as it was very hot in the morning. Shah is getting darker and darker whilst I still have my golfer´s tan. The sun only lasted until lunchtime though when again we had a storm. This is the forecast for the rest of the week.

We always strugle in spain for decent food for Ila but tonight was an exception. We found the Vagabond Restuarant in the old town and the food was brilliant. Run by a french couple, it had a fantastic menu for €13.95 a head. I had pork chops in apple and clavados sauce and Ila had spring rolls in lemon and honey sauce with tortellini. Possible the best meal we´ve every had abroad. Washed down with a bottle of local house red and some shots, we had a great evening.

It is a pity we couldn´t say the same same about the weather. We had a massive thunderstorm in the afternoon so we spent the time in the apartment. Better than working though.

The evening again was spent in drunken revelry in Benidorm Old Town. The rain had stopped and it was pleasantly warm. It´s a bit of a walk from the hotel to the sights and sounds of Benidorm and Shah has a bad back so we´re taking taxis and they are suprisingly expensive.

We set off bright and early and the drive to Stansted was easy, unlike so called EasyJet who couldn´t organise a piss up in a brewery. The plane was half an hour late so we missed our connection and had to wait an hour and a half for the next one. We didn´t get to the hotel until 8 o´clock having set off at 10´clock in the morning.

We arrived in a thunderstorm and it looks like rain for the rest of the week. The hotel is very nice, very clean and that means Shah likes it. We had a very happy hour in the hotel´s happy bar and went for a pleasant meal. Went to be very tired and emotional !

There’s no doubt that the best team win Euro 2008 and more importantly they did it with a bit of style. Even more pleasing is Jens Lehman blamed the Referee. Nothing to do with your team being a load of donkeys then Jens ?
