Tiger is obviously not the player he was. He may never be the player he was. But he is still the best player ever, capable of playing shots no one ever has (the 200 yard four iron out of a bunker at Bethpage in 2002 springs to mind). So I think little Lukey has got it wrong

As Graham Taylor said “Do I not like that “. I’m a great fan of Tiger and it’s brilliant that he’s sunk the winning putt in the President’s Cup. He’s still a long way from home and hopefully he’ll now just walk up to the ball and hit it rather than fart arse around. With Steve Stricker’s putting tip we may see Tiger back to his best. Then again we may not.

The sooner Tiger gets back the better because professional golf is as dull as dishwater at the moment.

I always think of Seve alongside Nick Faldo and Glenn Hoddle as great reminders of the good sporting times I enjoyed in the 80′s. Playing golf and following Tottenham back then brought great enjoyment for me. Seve played golf as it should be played with passion and flair (just like football should). In these days of technically perfect but sterile players, we need players like Seve to bring a bit of excitement and character to the game. Tiger Woods is miserable but he has the passion and skill to bring the game to life and he needs to get back on track to bring a bit of excitement back to the game like Seve used to.

My favourite Seve movement is the legendary putt at the 18th in the 1984 Open. That moment to encapsulates to me what sport is all about; joy, passion and it actually meaning something.

My favourite major is The Open but The Masters comes a close second. The course is fantastic, the place exudes history and the tournament is not afraid to do things it’s own way. I thought Woods was going to prove his critics wrong after his 31 for the front round and although he played well the back nine his poor putting put paid to his challenge. Schwartzel thoroughly deserved to win. If you birdie the last four holes of the final round, final back nine then the green jacket should be put on your shoulders. It was great watching Scott and Day along with little Lukey Donald and of course feeling sorry for McIlroy who’d played brilliantly for three days. Never seen anyone up in the house like he was at the tenth so that was a first. It must’ve scrambled his brains and if if was me I would have thrown my clubs in the nearest lake and gone home to me mum !

Tiger let this one slip away but a brilliant up and down at the 71st for a bogey when at double bogey looked the more likely outcome coupled with two fantastic putts on the 72nd and 1st play off holes both from further away than Tiger was, show you’ve always got a chance in golf. So next time you play and you’ve got your winner’s speech written before your round is complete, think of Graeme McDowell and what he did to Tiger.

When you play golf, it’s all in the putting really and Tiger has gone from an extraordinary putter to an ordinary putter. Good putting is based on being fearless, if you think you’re going to miss then inevitably you will miss. I still think Tiger’s got too much on his mind to be the brave and fearless putter he once was and until he gets that back he won’t be the player he was.

It’s quite hard to get into this because of the weather delays and it looks like Tiger is still struggling to maintain any sort of form.

It makes me laugh when the commentators (many of whom should know better) call Whistling Straits a links course. A links course is nine holes out along the coast then nine holes back along the course in the opposite direction (see North Berwick). It is a great golf course that is going to really test the players of the next two days but a links course it is not !
